BRAINSPOTTING

Your thoughts and feelings are all over the place, so you have a hard time expressing them clearly.

You feel stuck; you've gone to "talk" therapy a few times but have made little to no progress.

You would like to experience even deeper healing during counseling sessions.

There are many traumatic memories and wounds you would like to heal from, but you would prefer to not have to retell your story over and over again.

At Vitus Counseling, I use Brainspotting to treat adults suffering from PTSD, developmental trauma, and trauma symptoms. Perhaps, you are busy and do not have enough time to be meeting with a therapist weekly for months or even years on end. Or, maybe you cannot afford to spend money on numerous weekly sessions to work towards healing your trauma. The good news is that Brainspotting is a powerful brain-based therapy that creates rapid and effective change. It saves you time, energy, and money on your healing journey.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a relatively new, evidence-based trauma therapy that was created by EMDR expert and psychologist Dr. David Grand in 2003. The mantra of Brainspotting is “where you look affects how you feel.” In the spirit of this mantra, the therapist and client seek to match the client’s eye position and body sensation to an unresolved, distressing issue. This eye position gives you access to their brains in a way that helps them to deal with their specific distressing issues. In other words, this access spot (or brainspot) gives the client access to their particular trauma file(s). That gives their brain an opportunity to identify, process, reorganize, and release the core sources of their emotional/body pain, trauma, and other distressing symptoms.

If this approach sounds too intense or scary, no need to fear. Brainspotting is a safe mindfulness-based treatment approach. As you process your specific trauma(s), you will do so within the empathetic, compassionate, and attuned support of your therapist.

I don’t have PTSD. will I still benefit from Brainspotting?

You might be asking yourself, “What if I don’t have PTSD or a significant trauma history? Is Brainspotting still the right fit for me?” My answer to these questions is that all of us have experienced some form of trauma at one point in our life, so all of us can benefit from Brainspotting services. In addition, it can also effectively treat addictions (especially cravings), anxiety, fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions, OCD, phobias, sports performance issues, and stress.

Your brain might struggle with issues such as those listed right above, but it is still a genius and more than capable of changing itself. It simply needs help to reorganize the memories it’s storing so it can feel calmer and ultimately heal itself. That’s where Brainspotting comes in! It will help you move from dysregulation to regulation. And, it will quickly find the root cause of your conflicts and turn them into growth opportunities. So, do not hesitate to give Brainspotting services a try. Your brain and future self will thank you!
